Dudley and Merry Hill Vehicle Recovery

Dudley's breakdowns are spread between a huge shopping centre, a busy hospital, and a town centre that is being dug up for a tram line. The M5 is a few miles east. BlueLine takes calls at any hour from our base in Swansea and passes each job to the nearest available truck from our recovery network. Tell us the location and the destination, and you'll have the price before we book the truck.

Vehicle recovery in Dudley

Merry Hill, in Brierley Hill just off the A4036 Pedmore Road, has seven car parks with roughly 9,200 free spaces between them. That's a lot of tarmac to search, so give us the car park, the nearest entrance or store, and the make and colour of the car. Plenty of drivers come back from a long afternoon there to a battery that won't turn the engine over.

Russells Hall Hospital is on the A4101 Pensnett Road, with car parks on site, Blue Badge spaces near both the main entrance and the emergency department, and number-plate recognition cameras since 2025. If you're calling from there, say which car park and which entrance you can see.

To the north-east, the A461 and the A4123 Birmingham New Road meet at Burnt Tree, on the border with Sandwell. Works to rebuild that junction started in November 2025 and have been running through 2026, with lane closures and changed layouts. If you've stopped in the works, tell us which approach you were on and if the car is inside the coned area; a truck can't always stop where the cones are.

The A461 Dudley Southern Bypass, Duncan Edwards Way, skirts the town centre towards Cinder Bank Island. Dudley Zoo and Castle sit above it on the A461 Castle Hill, three miles from Junction 2 of the M5, with the car park reached from Tipton Road. The Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension is being built through Dudley, and the first tram reached the town in June 2026, so expect new track and stop layouts around the centre.

From Dudley, the quickest motorway is the M5 at Junction 2, reached along the A4123. A recovered car can go to a local garage, to your home, or to a dealer anywhere, and we price the whole journey up front.

Recovering something other than a car

Different vehicles need different trucks and different handling. These explain how each one is done.

Jump start in Dudley

A long shop at Merry Hill, a clinic appointment at Russells Hall or a day at the zoo can all end with a car that clicks and won't start, especially in winter or after weeks of short trips. A jump start is the first thing to try. Tell us the car park and the nearest entrance, the make and model, and whether it's a hybrid or has stop-start. Parked on a steep street in Netherton or Gornal? Mention it, so the van can position itself safely and the car can be secured before anyone works on it. At Merry Hill, give us the store or entrance you're nearest, because the car parks are big enough to lose a van in.

Battery replacement in Dudley

If the car needed jumping last week too, the battery is probably finished, and a fresh one fitted where the car stands saves a nervous drive to a garage. We can arrange that on a drive in Sedgley or Kingswinford, a street in Coseley, or a bay at Merry Hill or the hospital. Send the registration so the fitter brings the right battery. Cars with stop-start take AGM or EFB batteries, and some need the new battery coded to the car, so give us the exact model and year. If the car has been slow to crank for a while, or a battery light has been coming on, tell us that too.

Flat tyre & fuel in Dudley

A tyre that goes on the Southern Bypass or in the Burnt Tree works needs you out of the traffic before anything else. Get to a side road or a safe spot if the tyre allows, or stop with hazards on and wait away from the car. From there a mobile tyre change is usually possible, and knowing the tyre size from the sidewall helps. If the car is somewhere nobody can safely work on it, such as inside the coned area at Burnt Tree, it goes on the truck and the wheel is sorted elsewhere. Ran dry on the A4123 towards the M5? A fuel callout brings enough to reach a forecourt.

Dudley recovery & roadside FAQs

My car won't start in a Merry Hill car park. What do you need?

Which of the car parks you're in, the nearest store or entrance, and the make, model and colour of the car. Say whether it's a hybrid or has stop-start. A jump start where the car is parked is usually the quickest fix, and parking at Merry Hill is free, so there's no ticket running while you wait.

I've broken down in the roadworks at Burnt Tree. What should I do?

Hazards on. If you can get out safely, move away from the traffic and the works area. Tell us which road you were on (the A4123 or the A461, and which way), and whether the car is inside the cones. If you're stuck in a live lane with nowhere safe to go, call 999 first.

Can you collect a car from Russells Hall Hospital?

Yes. Tell us which car park and the nearest entrance, since the site has several. A flat battery is often fixed on the spot with a jump start or a new battery. If the car must be towed, the driver will come to the entrance you give us.

Can you move a car from Dudley to a garage in Birmingham?

Yes. Give us the garage's address when you call and the quote covers the full trip. If the garage is inside Birmingham's Clean Air Zone and your car is older, check how it will be driven home afterwards.

How much will a recovery in Dudley cost?

It depends on where the car is, what it is, whether it rolls and steers, and where it's going. You get one figure before the truck is booked and that's what you pay.
