Newport is small, with a population of around 1,200, and almost everything reaches it along the A487. Westwards the road runs through Dinas Cross to Fishguard, where it narrows to a single lane in places through the town. It's tight enough that articulated lorries have been sent another way since 2010. Eastwards it heads on towards Cardigan.
