Junction 15 of the M4 is the busier of the two for the east of town: it takes the A419 north to Swindon central and east, Cirencester and, via the A420, Oxford, and the A346 south to Marlborough. The Great Western Hospital is close to it. Junction 16 serves west Swindon, Royal Wootton Bassett and Wroughton, with the A3102 towards Calne. This section of the M4 keeps a proper hard shoulder between Junctions 15 and 16, so if you break down, leave by the doors on the left and stand well back behind the barrier.
The A419 is dual carriageway from the M4 to Cirencester, with a flyover at Commonhead built in 2007 and the Blunsdon bypass completed in 2009. It is quick, and a car that stops on it needs to be well off the running lane.
The Magic Roundabout, officially County Islands, is five mini-roundabouts arranged round a central one, where the A4259, Fleming Way, Drove Road and Shrivenham Road meet next to the County Ground. Traffic moves slowly, which is why its safety record is good, but a stalled car there blocks one of the mini-roundabouts at once. Tell us which road you came in on.
The places cars go flat are spread out. The Swindon Designer Outlet fills the old Great Western railway works, a few miles from Junction 16. Greenbridge Retail and Leisure Park at Stratton St Margaret, the Orbital Shopping Park at Haydon Wick and the West Swindon Shopping Centre are the three big out-of-town sites, and the Brunel Centre is in the middle of town. The BMW Mini plant at Stratton and the former Honda site at South Marston mean plenty of shift workers' cars sit in big car parks.

Hazards on straight away. If you can get out safely, do it on the kerb side and move away from the traffic. Call or WhatsApp 07944 820302 and tell us which road you came in on, Fleming Way, Drove Road, Shrivenham Road or the A4259, and roughly which mini-roundabout you're on. If the car is blocking the junction and you can't move it, call 999 as well.

Your direction, the last junction you passed, and the number on the nearest blue driver location sign if you can read it safely. Wait behind the barrier while you call. If you've stopped in a live lane and can't get out, stay belted in and call 999 first.
