The road layout around Dartford is easy to get wrong when you're describing where you are. Junction 1a of the M25 meets the A206 for Crayford, Erith and Swanscombe. Junction 1b is the Dartford exit onto the A225. Junction 2 is the big interchange with the A2 towards London and the M2 towards Canterbury. North of the junctions the road becomes the A282 approach to the Dartford Crossing: southbound traffic uses the QEII Bridge and northbound traffic uses the two tunnels.
If you stop on the bridge or in the tunnels, the crossing has its own National Highways control room, traffic officers and recovery teams on site, and they will move you off to a place of safety. We don't recover from inside the crossing. Once you've been dropped, call us with that location and we'll collect the vehicle from there.
Away from the motorway, Bluewater is a common place to find a car that won't start. It sits off the B255, which you reach from the A2 at the Bean interchange, and it has four multi-storeys (Guildhall, Plaza, Rose Gallery and Thames Walk) plus the open-air Village and Winter Garden car parks. Telling us which one saves a lot of time. Darent Valley Hospital on Darenth Wood Road, off the B2200 near the A2, is another spot where cars sit long enough for a weak battery to give up.
One boundary is worth knowing. Dartford is in Kent and outside London's ULEZ, but Crayford and the rest of the London Borough of Bexley, just to the west, are inside it. If your older car has just been repaired, check it before you drive that way. A recovered vehicle can go to a local garage, your home, or across the river to Essex, and the price covers the whole trip.

Not inside the crossing itself. The bridge and tunnels are run by National Highways, which has its own control room and recovery teams on site. In the tunnels, if you've stopped in the left lane and it's safe, leave by the left-hand door and use one of the emergency phones; if you can't get out safely, stay in the car with your seat belt on and hazards flashing so the control room can see you. Their team will move you to a place of safety. Once you're there, call or WhatsApp 07944 820302 and we'll collect the vehicle.
My car won't start in a Bluewater car park. What do you need from me?
The car park name and the level, plus the nearest entrance or bay marker if you can see one. Bluewater has four multi-storeys and two open car parks, so 'Bluewater' on its own isn't much to go on. Tell us the make and model and whether it's a hybrid or electric, because that decides whether a jump start is worth trying or the car needs a flatbed.
Can you take my car from Dartford over the river to a garage in Essex?
Yes. The truck crosses the Thames like any other vehicle, and the price we agree before dispatch covers the full journey to the garage. Have the garage's address or postcode ready when you call.
Do you cover the A2 as well as the M25?
Yes, from the Junction 2 interchange out past Bean towards Gravesend, and the local roads into Dartford. If you've stopped on the A2, get everyone out on the verge side and behind the barrier if there is one. If the car is stuck in a live lane and you can't get out safely, call 999 before you call us.
Do I need breakdown cover to use BlueLine in Dartford?

I've run out of fuel on the A2 near Bean. Can you bring some?
Yes. Get off the carriageway if the car is still rolling, ideally at the Bean exit, and if you're stuck in a live lane and can't get out safely, call 999 first. Once you're somewhere safe, tell us where and whether it's petrol or diesel, and we'll bring enough to get you to a forecourt. If you ran dry on the crossing itself, National Highways moves you off first.
