Gallows Corner, on the border with Hornchurch, is a five-exit roundabout where the A12 Eastern Avenue, the A118 and the A127 Southend Arterial Road meet. A single flyover dating from 1970 carries traffic between the A12 and the A127 above it; TfL closed it in 2025 to demolish and rebuild it. The town centre sits inside a ring road made up of St Edwards Way, Mercury Gardens, Thurloe Gardens, Oldchurch Road and Waterloo Road. It's a fast, busy loop with few places to stop. Inside it are three shopping centres, The Liberty, The Mercury Mall and The Brewery, which has a multi-level car park, plus the old market place, where Romford Market still trades with far fewer stalls than at its peak. Romford station has Elizabeth line, Overground and Greater Anglia trains, and commuters' cars can sit around it all day.
Queen's Hospital, on Rom Valley Way, opened in 2006, replacing four older hospitals, and has a very busy A&E. Long visits and night shifts mean cars left for hours in the cold, so when you call, say which of the hospital's car parks you're parked in.
Romford is inside the ULEZ, like the rest of Greater London, but the M25 itself isn't. If your older car is being recovered to a garage in Essex, it'll be outside the zone once it's there; if it's coming back to Romford after the repair, check it on TfL's vehicle checker first.
