The A38 through Derby still has three big roundabouts: Kingsway, where it meets the A5111 outer ring road; Markeaton, where the A52 Ashbourne Road crosses; and Little Eaton, with the A61 to the north. National Highways has planning consent to replace all three with grade-separated junctions, but the main construction contract doesn't start until 2028, so for now they are ordinary busy roundabouts. Kingsway Retail Park sits right by the A38 and A5111 junction.
The M1 runs about ten miles east of the city. Junction 25 is where the A52 leaves for Derby, and Pride Park is roughly five and a half miles along it. Junction 28 is the northern way in, down the A38. Both sit on all-lane-running stretches with no hard shoulder: Junctions 24 to 25, and Junction 28 north towards 31. If the car is failing, aim for an emergency area. If you've stopped in a live lane, stay belted in with your hazards on and ring 999 before you ring us.
The inner ring road is the A601, and it keeps changing name: St Alkmund's Way, Lara Croft Way, Bradshaw Way and Mercian Way, the last section opened in 2011. Derbion's Centre car park has two entrances, one from Osmaston Road off Lara Croft Way and one from London Road off Bradshaw Way, while its Basement car park is on the A601 next to Derby Theatre. The council also runs the Bold Lane and Chapel Street multi-storeys in the city centre.
Pride Park stadium brings match-day queues to Brian Clough Way and Pride Parkway, with the Wyvern Retail Park close by and the Meteor Centre off Mansfield Road. Royal Derby Hospital is out west on Uttoxeter Road, where a five-storey multi-storey opened in November 2025, reached from the hospital's internal ring road. A recovered car can go home, to a local garage, or to a dealer anywhere in the country.

I've stopped on the M1 near Junction 25 and there's no hard shoulder. What should I do?
Between Junctions 24 and 25 all lanes carry traffic, so get into an emergency area if the car will make it. If it won't, move as far left as you can, put your hazards on, and leave by the left-hand door to wait behind the barrier if that's safe. If it isn't safe to leave the car on that all-lane-running stretch, keep your seatbelt fastened and ring 999. Once you're safe, call us with your direction of travel and the last junction you passed.
My car won't start in the Derbion Centre car park. What do you need from me?
Which entrance you used (Osmaston Road or London Road), the level and roughly where on that level you are. A flatbed won't fit inside, so the first plan is a jump start or a new battery in the bay. Tell us the make, model and whether it's a hybrid.
Can you collect from a car park at Royal Derby Hospital?
Yes. Tell us which car park or the multi-storey, the level if it has one, and the nearest entrance or building. A flat battery after a long appointment is the usual problem there, and that's normally sorted where the car is parked.
Can you take my car from Derby to a garage in Burton or Nottingham?
