Vehicle recovery in Lincoln
Through traffic now skirts the city. The A46 relief road, opened in 1985, runs round the north-west side and climbs the Lincoln Cliff, meeting the A57 at the Carholme roundabout. The A15 Lincoln Eastern Bypass, completed in December 2020, carries traffic round the east with roundabouts at Greetwell Road, Washingborough Road and Sleaford Road. The A158 Wragby Road heads north-east for Skegness and meets the A46 at a roundabout of its own. When you ring us, the roundabout name is usually more useful than a postcode.
In the city, height matters. Castle Hill is about 75 metres above sea level and the riverside is about 20, and Steep Hill between them is a narrow pedestrian street. A car that won't start uphill near the cathedral may be on a tight residential street, so say whether a truck can pull up alongside or whether it will need to wait at the end of the road.
Down in the centre, the Lincoln Transport Hub by the railway station has a 1,000-space multi-storey. Broadgate car park runs to seven levels, and there are council car parks at Lucy Tower Street and Lincoln Central, plus an NCP on the High Street. For anything inside a multi-storey, tell us the car park, the level and whether the car is on a ramp. The university sits around Brayford Pool, with the A57 running past on Brayford Way.
Lincoln County Hospital is on Greetwell Road on the north-east edge of the city, a short run from the Eastern Bypass. Tritton Road in the south-west is home to some of the city's biggest employers, and St Marks shopping park stands on the site of the old St Marks station. From any of these, a recovered car can go to a Lincoln garage, back home to North Hykeham or Nettleham, or further afield to a dealer in Newark or Grantham.

Give us the last roundabout you went through and the next one ahead: Greetwell Road, Washingborough Road or Sleaford Road, for example. Say which way you were heading. Get everyone out on the verge side and away from the carriageway while you wait.
Can a recovery truck get to a car parked uphill near the cathedral?
Often, but not always right alongside. Some of the streets up there are narrow, and Steep Hill itself is a pedestrian street. Tell us the street and whether it's tight, and we'll plan the collection. If it's a flat battery, a jump start or replacement battery at the kerb usually saves moving the car at all.
My car's dead on an upper level of the Broadgate car park. What now?
Tell us the level, and if you're nearer the ramps or the stairs. A flatbed can't go inside a multi-storey, so the first move is a jump start or a new battery in the bay. If the car really must be lifted, it may need moving to ground level first, so let the car park operator know.
