Three M1 junctions serve the town. Junction 15 brings in the A45 and A508 from the south, Junction 15a is the A43 towards the M40 and Oxford, and Junction 16 feeds the A4500 into the west of the town and the A45 to Daventry. All of them sit on all-lane-running smart motorway. The section from Junction 13 to 16 was completed in 2023 and Junctions 16 to 19 work the same way, so there is no hard shoulder. The A45 carries on round the town as its southern and eastern bypass, with grade-separated junctions for the A508 and the A428 and another for the Brackmills Industrial Estate, north-east of Hardingstone. Brackmills is warehouses, yards and shift work, and a car left in a staff car park overnight in winter is a common place to find a flat battery. On the west side, Sixfields, with the Northampton Town stadium and its leisure park, is reached from the A45 Upton Way and the A4500 Weedon Road, close to Junction 16.
Shopping is spread about. Riverside Retail Park is on the east side, St James Retail Park just south of the centre, and Weston Favell Shopping Centre in the east. In town there are the Grosvenor Centre and Market Walk. Northampton General Hospital is in Cliftonville, close to the town centre. Its car parks get busy enough that people queue to get in, so if you're collecting a car from there, give us the car park and the nearest entrance.
