Coming in from the north, the A23 meets the A27 at the Patcham interchange, a pair of dumbbell roundabouts with a spur down to the Mill Road roundabout, and it is often slow there in the morning rush. From Patcham the A23 changes name almost every mile: London Road, Preston Road past Preston Park, London Road again, then York Place and Grand Parade, before it finishes at the Old Steine roundabout opposite the Palace Pier, where it meets the A259 coast road. Give us the street name as well as the road number and the driver will find you faster.
The A27 bypass is a dual carriageway rather than a motorway. Heading west it goes through the Southwick Hill Tunnel towards Shoreham. Heading east it runs past Falmer, where it is three lanes each way before dropping to two, and on Albion home games the stretch by the Amex stadium backs up. Matchday no-parking zones are enforced on the streets around Falmer, and the club runs park and ride from Mill Road, Brighton Racecourse and Mithras House, so a car that fails on a match day is often in one of those.
In town, the enclosed Churchill Square car park has about 1,600 spaces. You can drive out at any hour, but it stops letting vehicles in at 10pm and reopens at 6am, which matters if you've come back late to a dead car. Brighton Marina has a large multi-storey with an open top deck, and the Royal Sussex County Hospital's pay multi-storey is on the North Access Road, entered from Bristol Gate. Along the seafront, Madeira Drive and the A259 carry heavy summer traffic.
A recovered car can go to a garage in Hove or Brighton, back home, or up the A23 to a dealer further north, with the whole journey priced before we dispatch.

My car has died on the A27 near the Amex on a match day. What now?
Hazards on, and if you can get out safely do it on the verge side and wait behind the barrier. If you're stuck in a running lane and can't get out, stay belted in and call 999 first. Then call or WhatsApp 07944 820302 and tell us which way you were heading and if you've passed the Falmer turn. Traffic is heavy around kick-off and full time, so it helps to know exactly which side of the road you're on.
It's after 10pm and my car won't start in Churchill Square. Can you still help?
Yes, but tell us the time and the level straight away. The car park stops letting vehicles in at 10pm, though you can still drive out. A jump start from a small van or a booster pack is often possible, and if it isn't, we'll plan around the car park's opening times rather than send a truck that can't get in.
Where exactly should I say I am on the A23?
The road changes name several times between Patcham and the seafront, so give us the street: London Road, Preston Road, York Place or Grand Parade. If you're near the Patcham interchange, say if you're on the roundabouts, the spur to Mill Road or the A23 itself.
