Vehicle recovery in Leeds
The inner ring road's motorway section carries two numbers, the A58(M) in the west and the A64(M) in the east, and uses no junction numbers at all. Exits are named instead, for places like Quarry Hill, the A660 and the A65. It has a 40mph limit, no hard shoulders, at least one exit that leaves from the right-hand lane, and most of it sits in a concrete-walled cutting before diving into a tunnel under Leeds General Infirmary. If your car fails in there, there is nowhere to pull over: keep your belt on, hazards on, and call 999 so the lane can be protected. We take over once the car has been moved somewhere safe.
South of the centre, the M621 loops down to the M62 at Junction 27, passing close to Elland Road on the way. The M62 then bypasses Leeds to meet the M1 at Lofthouse (M62 Junction 29, M1 Junction 42), and the section between Junctions 25 and 30 has a smart motorway system with hard shoulder running. Watch the overhead signs: if the hard shoulder is open to traffic it isn't a safe place to stop, so head for an emergency area. Since 1999 the M1 has carried on from Lofthouse around the east of the city to the A1(M).
For parking, White Rose shopping centre numbers its car parks 1 to 8, and Trinity Leeds uses the multi-storey on Boar Lane. At the LGI the multi-storey is on Clarendon Way next to the Jubilee Wing. St James's University Hospital has a multi-storey on Alma Street beside the Bexley Wing, reached either from York Road via Burmantofts Street or from the A58 Easterly Road via Harehills Road.
Leeds dropped its planned Clean Air Zone in 2020, so there's no daily charge for driving a recovered car home through the centre. We can take it to a garage in Morley, your drive in Horsforth or a dealer the other side of the Pennines.

My car has cut out in the tunnel on the Leeds inner ring road. Can you come straight in?
Not while you're in a live lane with no hard shoulder. Stay in the car with your belt on and hazards flashing, and call 999 so the police can protect the lane. Once the car has been moved clear, call or WhatsApp 07944 820302 and tell us where it is. We'll collect it from there.
I've broken down on the M62 near Leeds and the hard shoulder is open as a lane. Where do I stop?
Head for the next emergency area or leave at the next junction if the car will get there. If it stops in a running lane, stay belted in with hazards on and call 999. When you're safe, tell us the junctions you're between and your direction of travel.
Which White Rose car park should I tell you?
The number on the signs, from 1 to 8, plus the nearest store entrance. That's much quicker for the driver than 'White Rose' on its own.
My battery is flat at St James’s Hospital. Can you get to the multi-storey?
A jump start or a replacement battery can often be done in the bay, as long as there's room around the car. A flatbed usually won't fit under a multi-storey roof, so if the car has to come away we'll talk through getting it down to ground level. Tell us the car park, level and your make and model.
Does Leeds have a Clean Air Zone charge I need to worry about after a repair?
No. Leeds City Council dropped its planned charging zone in 2020, so there is no daily charge for private cars driving into the centre.
