The M1 between Junctions 39 and 42 was the first all-lane-running motorway in the North. The Junction 39 to 41 section opened in December 2015 and the rest in January 2016, and the hard shoulder is now a permanent running lane. Junction 39 serves the A636 for Wakefield and Denby Dale, Junction 40 the A638 towards Wakefield and Dewsbury, and Junction 41 the A650 for Wakefield and Morley. Junction 42 is Lofthouse, the three-level interchange where the M1 crosses under the M62 at its Junction 29. If you have warning signs on this stretch, use an emergency area or the next exit. If the car stops in a live lane, stay belted in with hazards on and call 999 first.
East of Lofthouse the M62 serves Wakefield at Junction 30 and then Castleford at Junction 32, where Xscape Yorkshire has a main car park of around 1,400 free spaces plus an overflow. It's a common spot for a car to fail to start after an evening at the cinema or on the ski slope.
In the city, Trinity Walk's car park has about 1,000 spaces over two levels, with its main entrance on Marsh Way, the A61 section of the inner ring road. Pinderfields Hospital is about a mile out on Aberford Road, the A642, with its main visitor car park off Bar Lane.
